Can anyone explain why in the world fiber optic is so dang expensive?

 

Why aren't we putting research into finding ways to manufacture it CHEAPER???

Price the bandwidth, not individual services.

The gas company doesn't charge me different amounts for gas used for heating my home versus cooking, do they? The electric utility can't change the rates on the power based on what people use it for, can they? That would be illegal. We need the same, simple law for digital bandwidth provided by anyone. People should be able to purchase bandwidth and afforded privacy for how we choose to use the bandwidth we purchase. ...more »

Time for public works? C'mon...let's roll America!

With unemployment at such a high rate and our desire to do great things--why don't we take a page from our own history and utilize the unemployed people in a new public works project to rewire the country...putting in those big beautify broadband pipes across the country, wiring the last mile throughout the towns that don't have internet, and making our electric grid 'smart'. Put consumers over giant corporations

Suggest you do this: Michael J Copps on Google Verizon deal: "Some will claim this announcement moves the discussion forward. That's one of its many problems. It is time to move a decision forward. The decision to reassert FCC authority over broadband telecommunications, to guarantee an open internet now and forever and to put the interest of consumers in front of giant corporations."

Capitalizing on the crowd

I think the broadband plan needs to incorporate--in economic analysis and in its promotion--the notion that pervasive broadband and digitial technologies may fundamentally transform models of economic investment and return through increased coordination and collaboration.

 

Put simply, the Internet-based "crowd" is changing the way we consume, inform, communicate, and produce.

Third Way...? How about just OBEY the law...

Third way? Ha How about beginning to apply the law passed June 19, 1934. On Page 8 in paragraph (51) WIRE COMMUNICATIONS was required to be regulated just like other communications. I have attempted to have the Supreme Court order the FCC to regulate COMMUNICATIONS BY WIRE that are being called "Internet or IP Services" simply for a disguise. Protocol Redifinition

I think it is time we separate data into 2 general groups, "large, static data" and "small, dynamic data." Satellite internet is OK for the large transfer of files. Latency isn't a concern and you could theoretically pump a ton of data per cycle, transferring a 1gig file in a short amount of time.
