  Asymmetric Charging to discourage BitTorrents

  Most of us know what purpose BitTorrents are used for. However there is no effective way of blocking BitTorrents without compromising on Net Neutrality. If the ISP provider charges not for total volume of data but based on direction of traffic it can be effectively addressed. Most of the users of BitTorrents generate abnormally high volume (factor of mangnitude of 100 to 1000) of upload data traffic, than normal websurfers. ...more »

  Most of us know what purpose BitTorrents are used for. However there is no effective way of blocking BitTorrents without compromising on Net Neutrality.

  If the ISP provider charges not for total volume of data but based on direction of traffic it can be effectively addressed. Most of the users of BitTorrents generate abnormally high volume (factor of mangnitude of 100 to 1000) of upload data traffic, than normal websurfers. The ISP can put an assymmetric charging scheme where the users pays more for higher volume of uploads, in that case BitTorrents can be effectively addressed.

  This method requires no additional equipment (like DPI) to be installed and there is no requirement to monitor users. A simple change in charging policy can yield efficient internet traffic management.

  Powerline internet

  A lot of people are poo-pooing the idea of of delivering internet over powerline because it isn't as fast as cable. Quite honestly I'm sick of hearing it--you know what is SLOW--dial-up and satellite! And the rural locations those are currently the only two options available at this time--unless you're lucky enough to get cell phone coverage--then you might even have the option of 3G -- hold the oohs and ahhs.   While delivering the internet via power lines would not be as fast as other methods, it is the the MOST comprehensive delivery tool available because nearly every home has electricity...which to me sounds like the wires/infrastructure is ALREADY IN PLACE...all that would be needed is to install signal filters/repeater boxes right?

  Once we have the electric grid "wired for the 'net" we could figure out ways to make it faster.

  And hey--while we are at it--treat the internet like a utility and stop the price gouging!!!

  I'm sure there is some sort of happy medium between unlimited internet usage and pay-as-you-go that wouldn't break the budget.

  Broadband and the Internet are antithetical ideas like railroads vs driving

  Stop confusing Broadband with The Internet so that we can get a connected infrastructure instead of billable paths. http://frankston.com/?N=BI. Speed easy but availability is far more important -- 24×7×X×Y×Z wired and wireless.

  Focus on the agenda of the FCC's Chief Diversity Officer

  Everyone can offer up idea after idea on this message board, but we should all consider the agenda behind the "broadband expansion" effort. The "means" to the "ends" do matter. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who is opposed to having broadband internet available virtually anywhere in the country. However, there are two greater issues to consider.   Everyone can offer up idea after idea on this message board, but we should all consider the agenda behind the "broadband expansion" effort. The "means" to the "ends" do matter.

  I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who is opposed to having broadband internet available virtually anywhere in the country. However, there are two greater issues to consider. First, our national debt and the interest on the debt already represents far too high of a percentage of our GDP. Second, the is now receiving direction by Mark Lloyd. Mr Lloyd's beliefs (in recorded video/audio and through writings) clearly are counter to the majority beliefs for most internet users. Mr. Lloyd wishes to control ALL forms of media and communication. This should never be the role of any federal government employee.

  Pleae take a few minutes to do a google search on Mark Lloyd and discover for yourself how anti-constitutional he is. Every discussion should revolve around his appointment to the FCC. If not, you should expect the end result untimately to restrict access (not in speed but rather content) to the Internet, not expand it.

  This agency will be responsible for dealing with hackers and/or spammers. Furthermore, they will deal with Cisco, their routers and switches, and will require the following: 1. Machine Access Code or MAC address be recorded in the headers and footers of all of the data packets from the original microprocessor device. 2. Be equipped with a Global Positioning System or GPS 3. Every data packet that travels through the ...more »

  This agency will be responsible for dealing with hackers and/or spammers. Furthermore, they will deal with Cisco, their routers and switches, and will require the following:

  1. Machine Access Code or MAC address be recorded in the headers and footers of all of the data packets from the original microprocessor device.

  2. Be equipped with a Global Positioning System or GPS

  3. Every data packet that travels through the router and switch will record the GPS coordinates in the headers and the footers.

  4. record the MAC address of destination microprocessor device in the final data packets.

  7 layers of OSI model need to be trimmed down to an arbitrarily derived 3 layers.

  5. There’s no censorship of information by ensuring that the information from the original microprocessor device reaches the destination microprocessor device.
