Campaign: E-Gov & Citizen Engagement

Support for Community Media and Technology Centers

Cities and towns need support to help residents gain skills in computers and broadband technology. Community media and technology centers, including public libraries and other community institutions, provide digital and media training to residents using computers and the Internet.

As the recently released report from the Knight Commission on the Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy explains, "People need relevant and credible information to be free and self-governing." Therefore, any national broadband strategy must include funding and support for community media and technology centers to help residents acquire technology skills and engage in civic life.
