Can anyone explain why in the world fiber optic is so dang expensive?
Why aren't we putting research into finding ways to manufacture it CHEAPER???

It takes time, once it starts getting more attention, more people should innovate. But yes, this would allow this whole plan to happen much easier.

Think of a process that makes very very thin strands of glass now combine them this is a infant stage loom like process using glass and gravity its a very time intensive process that can end up with expensive defects. One way might be to do a process like how large looms that make large numbers of taxtiles its just a very fragile material early in its process.
